Over the years, I’ve supported a number of ministries — different ones at different times, each serving a purpose. But one ministry I’ve supported for many, many years is Charles Stanley and his daily devotional, In Touch.
It has been such a blessing in my life.
Every day, along with reading Scripture, I spend time in devotionals. They’re short. They’re simple. But they’re powerful. And once in a while, one hits you right between the eyes. Over the past year, I saved a few that really spoke to me. I thought, Boy, one of these would be perfect for a closing message someday.
Recently, I came back to one that simply said:
“God, some days I feel unsure.
I replay conversations in my head and question decisions I’ve made.
I long for rest, for true security, and I can’t find it.
Help me to see myself as You do — to look in the mirror and see a precious creation made by a good Father.
Teach me to be confident in my strengths and to acknowledge weaknesses without judgment.
I pray for confidence to know who I am in You.
Relieve me of self-doubt, Lord, and fill me instead with Your peace.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
Is that talking to you?
I know it was talking to me.
We All Have Those Moments
Even after all these years — the fishing, the television, the travel, the thousands of days on the water — there are still moments when I look in the mirror and think about conversations I’ve had, decisions I’ve made, things I could have said better.
We all do that.
Maybe you’re questioning a business decision. Maybe you’re wondering if you handled a situation right. Maybe you’re just tired. Spiritually tired. Emotionally tired.
And sometimes, if we’re honest, we long for real security. Not just financial security. Not just a full livewell. But a deep-down peace that says, You’re okay. You’re loved. You’re exactly where you’re supposed to be.
That devotional reminded me of something important: our confidence doesn’t come from our performance. It comes from knowing who we are in Christ.
Seeing Yourself Through the Right Lens
As anglers, we’re always adjusting our perspective. We change baits. We change angles. We move locations. We adjust based on what the conditions are telling us.
But how often do we adjust the way we see ourselves?
The devotional said: “Help me to see myself as You do.”
That’s powerful.
Instead of seeing flaws first…
Instead of magnifying weaknesses…
Instead of replaying failures…
What if we looked in the mirror and saw a precious creation made by a good Father?
That doesn’t mean ignoring weaknesses. It means acknowledging them without judgment. It means understanding that growth is part of the journey — just like learning a new lake.
Confidence and Peace
Confidence isn’t arrogance. It’s not self-promotion. It’s not pride.
True confidence is quiet.
It’s knowing who you are in Him.
It’s trusting that even when you don’t have all the answers, God does. It’s walking through uncertainty with faith instead of fear. And when self-doubt creeps in — and it will — you bring it to Him.
“Relieve me of self-doubt, Lord, and fill me instead with Your peace.”
That’s a prayer we can all pray.
And here’s the thing: those little devotionals don’t just “happen” by accident. I truly believe God puts certain words in front of us at exactly the right time. I felt led to share this one because I know someone reading this needs it.
Maybe it’s you.
From All of Us at The Edge
At Lindner’s Angling Edge, we talk about patterns, structure, timing, and presentation. But there’s something deeper that sustains us — faith, family, and purpose.
If you’re struggling with doubt today, take heart.
You are not alone.
You are seen.
You are loved.
Look in the mirror and remember: you are a precious creation made by a good Father.
From all of us here at The Edge, have a great fishing season.
And I’ll see you on the water.
