As I grow older, I find myself becoming more sensitive to the word of God and the world around me. There’s an old saying that wisdom comes with age, and I can certainly attest to that. At this point in my life, I have become much more thankful and focused in my prayer time.
In my prayer time, like many others, I used to spend a lot of time petitioning the Lord for help. I would ask for things I needed or wanted and seek His blessings. There’s nothing wrong with that, and it’s important to bring our needs before the Lord. However, I have also found myself taking a step back and shifting my focus.
There are times when I set aside a day or part of a day in my prayer closet to simply look around me and think about the people who are blessings in my life. I think about the people I work with, the people I go to church with, and all the other aspects of my life. I start by praising God and saying thank you, thank you, thank you, Lord. At the top of my list of thank yous is the gift of life itself. It is such a blessing and an adventure.
As I continue my prayers, I express gratitude for all the other things in my life. I thank God for the people, places, and circumstances that have shaped me. I am grateful for the relationships I have, the opportunities I’ve been given, and the experiences that have enriched my life.
The older I get, the more sensitive I become to these blessings. It’s as if my heart is constantly tugged towards gratitude. I can’t help but see the smallest things, like my boat or my car, and say thank you, Lord. I walk around and see the beauty of where I live, and I am filled with gratitude.
I felt compelled to share this with you because it has been weighing on my heart for the past few months. Thanksgiving and thanking the Lord for even the simplest, tiniest things has become a significant part of my prayer life. I wanted to share this message of gratitude with you, as you are the first ones I am sharing it with.
I encourage you to take a moment to reflect on the blessings in your own life. Shift your focus from asking to thanking. Express gratitude for the gift of life and all the other blessings that surround you. Let’s remember to be thankful, not just during the holiday season, but every day. From all of us here at the edge, we wish you a good and safe fishing season. See you on the water!
