Favorite Scripture

Every year I get an opportunity to speak at a number of churches or sports shows or fishing events someplace around the country.

Almost inevitably somebody will come up to me with one of our old books, in this case, First Light on the Water or Reflections At First Light, or even some fishing book or an In-Fisherman magazine that we did many years ago.

They’ll ask me to autograph and date it, and it isn’t rare for somebody to ask me, “Hey can you put your favorite scripture around there would you please and I’m gonna share my favorite scripture on there too.

When the word of God became real to me — out of my head and into my heart — I got into the Bible and it was like an eye-opener to me yeah you know I said I can’t believe what I’m reading!

Sure, I knew aboutthe Bible, but this was the first time I heard and comprehended with extreme clarity. And I couldn’t believe what I was reading and hearing.

I asked myself how had I miss this al said how did I miss this all my life. I thought I was a pretty smart guy, we were successful, making money — we’re building a great business. How did I miss so much simple factual truth that’ll impact my life in a positive way.

Well one of those scriptures was in the book of Proverbs and which I read every year a couple of different times.

I love Proverbs it’s proverbs 16:3 it says:

Commit your works unto the Lord and your thoughts shall be established.

Again commit your works unto the Lord and your thoughts shall be established.

When I read those words, they became alive in me.

I shared this experience with my wife, my brother and my sister-in-law. At the time, we owned the In-Fisherman Communications Network. We went to our office we laid hands on our office building and prayed over the building dedicated the fruits of our labor, and moving forward — everything we did was in his glory and honor.

Also moving forward, we incorporated the little logo of the fish and the cross into everything we do—it became part of our corporate logo.

That’s just a simple statement that we made to glorify God in all that we do. It’s our way of saying “Thank you, Lord! All we do, and everything we plan to do, is being done in line with your word and for your glory and honor!”

Commit your works unto the Lord and your thoughts shall be established.

My prayer is that the Word of the Lord will become as real to you as it is for me.
