The Flag

Hey, have you ever wondered why the flag is folded 13 ways and presented at a military funeral to the loved one of the soldier that is lost? You’re going to find this interesting. I certainly did and I had to read it. The first fold of the flag is the symbol of life.

The second fold is a symbol of the belief in eternal life. The third fold is made in honor and remembrance of the veterans departing the ranks who gave a portion of their lives for the defense of the country to attain peace throughout the world. The fourth fold represents the weaker nature for as American citizens trusting in God.

It is to him we turn in times of peace as well and in times of war for his divine guidance. The fifth fold is a tribute to the country for in the words of Stephen Decatur, our country in dealing with other countries may she always be right but it is still our country right or wrong. The sixth fold is for where people’s hearts lie.

It is with their heart that they pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and a republic for which it stands one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all. The seventh fold is a tribute to its armed forces for it’s through the armed forces that they protect their country and their flag against all enemies whether they’re found within or without the boundaries of the republic. The eighth fold is a tribute to the one who entered into the valley in the shadow of death that we might see the light of day.

The ninth fold is a tribute to womanhood and mothers for it’s been through their faith, their love, loyalty, devotion and the character of men and women who have made this country great as it’s been molded into what it is today. The tenth fold is a tribute to the father for he too has given his sons and daughters for the defense of their country since they were first born. The eleventh fold represents the lower portion of the seal of King David and King Solomon and glorifies in the eyes the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

The twelfth fold represents an emblem of eternity and glorifies in a Christian eyes God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. The thirteenth fold and when the flag is completely folded the stars are uppermost reminding them of their nation’s motto in God we trust. Yes, yes.

Did you grasp all of that? I bet you you didn’t know much about it. Now a little bit of history on why the flag is folded the way it is. From all of us here at the Edge, you have a great fishing season.

The symbolism of the American Flag transcends stars and stripes

From parades to porches to far above government buildings, the American flag is significantly more than just a piece of cloth flying in the breeze. One finds rather faithful portrayal of a nation’s history, identity, and values. Actually, though, what do the flag’s colors, stripes, and stars convey?

The Stars: variances and oneness

Every star on a blue backdrop in the upper left corner of the flag catches the 50 states defining the United States. Their consistent scale and clean design demonstrate that the union depends on all states, regardless of size or population, therefore enhancing the idea of unity and equality.

Originally flown in 1777, the flag had simply 13 stars—that of the 13 colonies claiming their freedom from Britain. Stars were inserted as a graphic representation of a nation still under construction growing.

### Correcting the Past: The Stripes

The 13 red and white stripes are reflected in the original thirteen colonies. The stripes help to remind us of the struggle for freedom these colonies went through and the start of American democracy, so forming the country.

The stripes also pay respect to tenacity. They remind us that Americans of today savor their rights by means of bravery, selflessness, and unrelenting search of freedom.

### 😊 Rich Meaning: The Colors

Though their original meaning for the flag itself was not clear-cut, the colors red, white, and blue — formally chosen from the Great Seal of the United States — have come to symbolize vital ideas:

Red stands for bravery and courage —a reference to those who have battled and are currently fighting for the national liberation.
Reflecting the ideas and goals defining the American dream, White represents purity and innocence.
Blue addresses vigilance, endurance, and justice — qualities required to promote a fair and free society.

An Agent Dwelling in Symbolic Form

Constantly evolving is the American flag. From 13 stars to 50, it has changed with the years to represent the national expansion as every new state joined the Union. Reflecting this adaptability, one of America’s main benefits is its ability to grow while yet honoring its fundamental principles.

These days the flag stands for freedom, democracy, and nationalism. It flies in remembrance, joy, and sorrow. From solemn military funerals to Independence Day pyrotechnics, the flag is a familiar emblem of the American experience.

All things considered, the American flag combines not only a star-and- stripe pattern. It depicts the dynamic and cosmopolitan nation maintained under common principles and the search of a brighter future. The flag reminds us that freedom is both a privilege and a responsibility and catches what it means to be American from a flagpole or worn on a lapel.
